Laurence SHEPSTONE was my father's mother's mother's father.
He was baptised 20 February 1820 at Long Ashton, Somerset where he was still living in 1840.
He married Eliza BURGH or BURGE 17 May 1840 at Long Ashton parish church.
He lived at Easton in 1851 and 1871.
He lived at Failand, Long Ashton in 1881.
He hung himself "during a state of Temporary Insanity" 20th May 1891 at Failand Inn, Wraxall, Somerset.
The following is from the Western Daily Press for Friday 22nd May 1891 . . .
FAILAND Found Dead. - On Wednesday morning a man named Lawrence Shepstone, between 70 and 80 years of age, was found hanging in a stable at the Failand Inn. The deceased was an ex-police constable of the Bristol police force, and was receiving a pension, and he had been lodging at the Failand Inn for several years. P.C. Haining has communicated with the coroner.

Eliza SHEPSTONE was my father's mother's mother.
She was born 18 April 1843 at 6 Skinner Street, St Pauls.
She married William HENDY 4 Sept 1874 at Clifton register office. Witnesses were Elizabeth Shepstone and Charles Bridgeman.
She lived at 193 Pennywell Road in 1881.
She lived at 5 Lovell Street, Sts Philip and Jacob April 1884.
She lived at 292 Newfoundland Road, St Pauls in 1908.
She died, aged 73, at 11 Canton Street, St Pauls on 10 December 1916, from senility and fatty degeneration of the heart.
She was buried at 3.45 pm on Sunday 13th December 1916 in Greenbank Cemetary (Green B, No. 380) at a cost of £5/2/6 (5 pounds, 2 shillings and 6 pence). This included a charge for "extra depth".
